Island retreats · Yoga, wellness & culture

Space to
slow down.

Time for practice, time for the island,
and a little time for yourself.

A different rhythm, beside the Mekong

Make room
for what matters.

A morning practice. A walk through the village. An afternoon with nothing to rush towards.

Don Daeng brings yoga, time outdoors and Lao village life into the same setting. Its rice fields, trees and riverside landscapes leave room for both shared activities and quieter moments.

Come for a personal break, enquire about a retreat at La Folie Lodge, or bring an idea for a group gathering. The programme can begin with what you want to make time for.

Shape the days around your interests

Practice. Explore.
Leave space in between.

01 / Movement & stillness

Yoga & meditation.

Discuss a rhythm of movement, breathing and quieter practice suited to the group’s experience. Teaching, session times and suitable practice spaces should be agreed with the organiser.

02 / Time to unwind

Rest & wellbeing.

Leave time for reading, a swim at the lodge or a spa treatment by arrangement. A retreat can have generous pauses as well as a programme; confirm facilities and treatments with your host.

03 / Beyond the mat

Nature & culture.

Make space for village paths, cycling and birdwatching, or discuss an excursion across the river to Champasak and Vat Phu. Meals and cultural visits can be part of the conversation too.

These are possibilities to discuss, rather than a fixed list of inclusions. Activities depend on the programme, hosts and conditions during your stay.

Between shared sessions

The unhurried
part of the day.

A retreat also happens in the spaces between activities: a swim, a walk through the garden, a quiet seat looking towards the river. Leave those pauses in the programme. Facilities, treatments and shared activities can be discussed with your host when you shape the stay.

Gather at
La Folie Lodge.

A place to return to

Rest comes
into the picture.

Timber, soft daylight and views towards the gardens or the river. A room becomes a place to return to between sessions: for a quiet morning, a book or a little rest before dinner. The lodge can help match its bungalows and suites to your group and preferred sharing arrangements.

Part of a living island

Let the island
be part of the stay.

Village walks and time among the trees bring a different perspective to a retreat. Watch birds along the field edges, explore by bicycle or arrange a meal with a local host.

Temples and villages are places of everyday life. Follow local guidance, ask before photographing people and arrange any community visit with the people involved.

For a longer journey, discuss adding Vat Phu, the Bolaven Plateau or the 4,000 Islands. Allow time for travel and the individual places, as well as the retreat itself.

When the day softens

From river light
to evening quiet.

The landscape changes as the light leaves the sand and the lodge settles into evening. Leave an open hour in the day to enjoy that change, whether you spend it by the river, with a book or in conversation. Each visit has its own weather, water level and rhythm.

For teachers & retreat organisers

Bring an idea.
Start a conversation.

Whether your focus is yoga, meditation, creativity or time together, a few details help turn the idea into a practical proposal.

Your dates & group.

Share your preferred dates, length of stay, expected group size and room-sharing arrangements. Mention whether you are flexible on timing.

Your practice & spaces.

Describe the activities, experience level and teaching arrangements. Ask about practice areas, equipment and a suitable alternative to outdoor sessions.

Meals & individual needs.

Outline meal preferences, dietary requirements and any access needs. Confirm what the host can provide before inviting participants to book.

Transfers & the wider journey.

Discuss meeting points, boat crossings, excursions and how much free time to leave. Ask for a written proposal with inclusions and booking terms.

Beach space and outdoor conditions change with the river level and weather. Agree on the practice setting for your dates, together with an alternative where needed.

Tell us about your retreat
Before you make plans

A few questions,
answered.

Do I need to join an organised retreat?

No. You can also arrange an independent island stay and ask your host about available activities. For accommodation and arrival information, see Stay & Visit.

Are beginners welcome?

The appropriate level depends on the retreat and teacher. Share your experience and what you are looking for, then confirm that the programme suits you before booking.

Can we bring our own teacher?

Include this in your group enquiry. Discuss the teaching arrangements, practice space, equipment and daily schedule with the venue before confirming your retreat.

Will all sessions take place on the beach?

The practice setting depends on the programme, weather and river conditions. The photographs show previous activities; confirm the space and any alternative arrangements for your dates.

Where can I find dates and prices?

Contact La Folie Lodge or send an enquiry below for your proposed retreat. Ask for current availability, a quotation, inclusions and booking terms. This page does not display a live retreat calendar.

What do you
have in mind?

Tell us your preferred dates, group size and the kind of experience you would like to create. Include any teaching, meal or access requirements so the conversation can start with the details that matter.

For La Folie Lodge’s current programmes and room reservations, you can also contact the lodge directly. Sending an enquiry does not confirm a booking.
